About

The thing about Peter Gherardi, the “Vineman“, is that he has been around as a viticultural consultant in Margaret River and knows a thing or two about the whole shabang..
Peter is experimenting as a blogger. He was talked into it by his wife Jennifer, film producer for Jag Films after she had attended the XMeida Lab in Melbourne last year.
“Jen’s suffered being a wine wife - suffice it to say, not silently!” says Peter.
“It’s a close call on whether he his loves vines more than me (I usually lose on the weekends). He grows beautiful vines and has great wine but is crap at “selling” so I was in a good bargaining position” says Jennifer.
The blog is linked to the Gherardi website so you can wander into that at any time.
Agriculture is where it all started and he did his masters in sheep reproduction. He still hankers to be on a wide veranda on a sheep farm but in 1976 vine planting was just getting underway in Margaret River.

Working at the Agriculture Department as a viticultural advisor to the Swan Valley it doesn’t take a leap to see why Margaret River looked like a good idea to Peter.

Freycinet Estate started from humble beginnings but with family help a vineyard, home and winery evolved.

In 1991 it was sold and became Voyager Estate and has undergone another metamorphis..
The boom time was underway and Peter became flat out consulting to the big expansion.
He feels lucky during this time to have kept his winemaking going by doing vintages in Europe: Tuscany, Piedmont, Bordeaux and Provence (5 vintages at Vignelaure).

BUT he had to have his own vines to kick… and planted on a small block on the banks of the Margaret River…
