“A Good Year” is “Good Entertainment”!

Earlier this week I went along to the local cinema to see “A Good Year” featuring Russell  Crowe.

Loosely it is about a high flying London-based bonds trader Max Skinner (Russell Crowe) who flies off to Provence to inspect a Chateau and estate left to him by his uncle who had brought him up as a boy.  Max had expected to sell it off over a weekend and be back for the opening of the markets on the Monday.

Things get bogged down as Max encounters the dedicated winemaker who has managed the vineyard since he was a boy, a pretty young Californian woman claiming to be Uncle henry’s daughter and a beautiful, alluring local waitress.

Whilst the reviews I have seen have varied from 2/5 stars to 5/5 stars I must say I found it entertaining.  It had a simple story line with no blood & guts, no violence and steamy sex scenes. It was fluffy with typical Provence scenery & lighting and yes I could almost smell the food, having spent 5 vintages in the vicinity of Aix en Provence a few years ago.

Yes, Chateau Vignelaure, as seen above, was located in the Cote de Aix en Provence and was a wonderfull experience.  The wines that were made were outstanding, the food of the region was excellent and the scenery was something else.

I understand now why people want to live there, make wine there and even film there.
