Western Australian Great Bike Ride
Last week Margaret River played host to some 2,500 cyclists, pedalling their way from Albany on the south coast through the south west regions of W.A. to Perth. They came in all shapes, sizes and ages. It was obviously a logistical challenge for all those concerned with the task of arranging overnight stops and amenities as well as things to do.

The local football oval was transformed into a tent city which was a fantastic sight. Tents of all sizes with bikes everywhere! Repairs being carried out, catching up on washing as well as resting weary bones.

Even the goal posts served a practical purpose for some clothes drying. What would the footy players think?

While wandering around I did come to wonder how would such a number of people could grab a shower etc.. Lo and behold there was the answer, mobile semi trailers with showers on board. I would never have thought.

The other question I asked myself was where do these people hangout, have meals etc.. Again just around the corner was a large area decked out with all amenities including coffee machines and even piped music!! Those organising the event did think of everything.
I hear many got to see the sights of the area as well as check out the Margaret River Pro surfing competition held also last week. It really was a busy time around town.
Yes and vintage is underway as well. I will report on how it is going in the next day or so.
